Dear Friends,
Vijayadasami is a special day when the guru – student relationship is ritualised, consecrated and renewed. It is also an auspicious day when pledges for new students are made.
This also seems to be an opportune time for those dance students who have not been attending classes regularly to request their teachers to give them another chance. (As it is an auspicious day the teacher has no choice but to say ‘Yes!’)
A small puja is usually conducted by senior dancers, replete with energetic bhajans. There is usually a large gathering of dancers with their families and friends.
Vijayadasami 2025 at Sutra was a big affair and our Amphi-Sutra became a dance factory of sort with dancers overflowing the stage. Dancers wore their red kurta pyjamas and sari and senior dancers/teachers in pink attires. The red colour gave Sutra House a carnivalesque atmosphere with an overflowing of food (vegetarian, of course!) to boot.
Sutra has been celebrating Vijayadasami for the last 4 decades and some senior students come to renew their ties with their alma-mater.
It’s the time of the year that dancers and the community look forward to as there is a communal participation that energised the resolve to work harder in the future.
