Dear Friends,

It’s always heartening when Sutra senior dancers return from different parts of the world, from their different destinies, to once again touch base with Sutra – a place where they had spent a significant part of their growth exploring a very important part of their inner calling, which is their artistic talent.

KL dance audience must remember Shantona Bag who had shone brightly with her scintillating dance when Sutra had struck gold with so many outstanding dance talents.

Shantona Bag, who is now settled in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, is now briefly back in KL. She is presently a successful doctor, happily married with two children and is spending a holiday with Mum & Dad. The latter are domiciled in KL and for years, have been and are still, great supporters of Sutra.

It’s great to see Shantona is still in excellent form. Joined by two other senior dancers, Revathi (now in Chennai) and Rathimalar (also back from Australia), they are Sutra dance ambassadors who represent our rich and living dance legacies.

They have spread their wings elsewhere and are artistic bridges of good tidings of Dance. Together with the present senior Sutra dancers Geethika Sree, Tan Mei Mei, Dr Rajavel and Dr Subhashini, we decided to visit old dance haunts of Bharatanatyam and Odissi, revelling in memories of dances that have allowed our talents to bloom in a thousand burst of hues.

They also decided to join me as I rehearsed my dance for I shall soon leave for my own solo Odissi appearance at the Saptashajya Festival in Dhenkanal (Odisha) on 28 December. May we continue to bask in the blessing of Dance.

Ramli
