Dear Friends,

On 4 May 2020, we’ve decided to celebrate our ‘partial release’ of Movement Control Order (Lockdown), with Embrace 4 – Quintessence which was envisaged from our archival videos of our performance at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) 2014. This was a landmark and major performance as it was the first time Sutra was invited to perform in the nation’s prestigious performance space. Also, we demonstrated an important point when this contemporary modern dance foray, accompanied by the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) proved to be a highly successful and unique one.

Quintessence reminded the audience that Sutra was also in the forefront of Malaysia contemporary modern dance, and has been so since the early 80’s.

Quintessence also took the history of dance a full circle. The West has been inspired by the oriental East but in this case, we are inspired by the occidental West, specifically, the music.
