Ramli Ibrahim, founder of Sutra Foundation, shares the ethos behind Sutra’s trans-cultural performances focussing on Odissi.

This is a succinct documentary narrated by Sutra dancer Shantona Bag on Ramli Ibrahim and Sutra’s catalytic trans-cultural role in this region of Southeast Asia. Ramli shares his views on the Malaysia-India link which has been there since time immemorial. From Kalinga to Bujang Valley more than two millennia ago and now, from Kuala Lumpur to Chennai, Delhi and Konark, Sutra has brought back the proverbial ‘curry back to Madras’.

Ramli celebrates Sutra’s position as the enigmatic ‘bridger’ of Malaysia-India cultural link, a soft cultural diplomacy position borne out of love and admiration for the Indian classical dance of odissi.
