Dear Friends,
The Bajau Laut of North Borneo, a photography exhibition displaying works of A. Prathap (Special Photographer of Times of India, Chennai), was a rare event that highlighted a special contemporary India-Malaysia cultural effort.
The exhibition exclusively featured the disappearing nomadic lifestyle of the seafaring indigenous Sea-Gypsies of Semporna Islands of Sabah.
A Prathap captured the pristine man-Nature-sea in a manner both sensitive and poetic. Besides the Bajau Laut themselves, guests were able to savour some of most compelling hills-seascape images of this part of the lesser known Sabah at different times of the day. The Bajau Laut community in their day-to-day life blend with the environment which has given them a unique identity and meaning to Life, which is totally their own and that which transcends man-made national borders.
During the launch, there was an unscheduled power cut which necessitated guests to use flashlights from their mobiles. Never was a time when the turquoise sea appeared more intense green than this time! It was a unique experience indeed!
Congratulations, Prathap!
