Dear Friends,
Ishwar Muthkumaran sent a strong message to the young generation to continue investing in the knowledge passed on by genuine keepers/gurus of our traditions. He specifically voiced the need to heed the intangible legacy pertaining our classical dances.
Ishwar imparted his own enriching experience learning under Guru Chandrasekhar Pillai, son of the late Guru Kittappa Pillai, who represents the 8th generation of the famed Tanjore Quartet. Ishwar shared anecdotes and also demonstrated relevant selections of rare old dance compositions of the Tanjore Quartet.
Ishwar conveyed his elation in teaching Sutra dancers who contributed to his lecture demonstration. His brief ‘Kuravanji’ duet with dancer Rathimalar Govindarajoo was engaging and well matched.
Those who missed this unique interaction with dancer Ishwar Muthkumaran may like to watch him in his upcoming solo performance on 12 & 13 August at the DPAC.
