The wedding of Dr. Anushen & Shivani was an elegant affair, held on 13 April, 2024 at the intimate ballroom of Grand Hyatt. Nothing too ostentatious, everything in the right place and balance.
Almost three years ago, Sutra performed for the wedding of Shivani’s elder sister, Dr. Shankari, who married Suren, a cousin of Anushen.
Shivani & Shankari are the daughters of Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Sothi Rachagan (a former classmate of Ipoh-mari actor Mano Maniam) and Datin Dr. Jayaranee A.S. Maniam. Dr. Anushen, the groom, is the son of Dr. Sivakumaran and Dr Selvayogini.
It was not only a marriage of two successful and loving individuals, each in the throes of their own bright futures but also of two distinguished families of academicians and professionals.
Emceed by the fun-flamboyant Chacko Vadaketh who made everyone at ease, Sutra opened the night with a bharatanatyam dedicated to Ganesha, Remover of obstacles. The dance ended with a complex Alarippu in tisra dhruvam talam (11 beats).
After dinner, Sutra performed a scintillating Pallavi in Rag Shankarabaranam, re-arranged to include episodic images from the Ramayana. Central to the dance are the divine couple Rama and Sita, indeed a fitting celebratory dance to the newly weds.
