Dear Friends,

Navarathri at Sutra is a busy communal affair! For the senior dancers, it is about acting as a bridge for continuing the cultural tradition with the younger members of the community.

It is the time of enjoying the togetherness of participating in the selfless act of ‘seva’, of teaching collectively to the young students the various ‘preparations’ for a performance. It is also about interacting with parents of Sutra’s students.

Afterall, this is the time when one fully connects with one’s artform. The students are familiarised with the various ‘rituals’ associated with making oneself ‘ready’ to be a vessel for the pure spirit to inhabit within! The preparation of tieing the sari, making up the face and hair, the flowers etc. Only then that one is ready to be the moving ‘sacrificial’ altar, literally a live temple, which is what a dancer is, when he/she performs during Navarathri!

Sutra.
