This evocative photographic journey by Pondicherry-based photographer, Lalit Verma, captures the mystique, devotion, and transcendence of the Purna Maha Kumbh Mela.

The grandest ever congregation of humanity, this Festival or ‘Mela’, did not need any invitation and represented the Sanatana Dharma in its true essence. An estimated 450 million people had gathered over a period of a month for a special ritual bath at the confluence of three rivers – Ganga, Yamuna & Saraswati, culminating on the last day of the Maha Kumbha Mela which fell on the auspicious day of Maha Sivarathri (26 Feb).

Lalit Verma will also screen his docu-video, that augments his visual exploration of mythic faith and tradition, merging with the eternal flow of the sacred waters.

This will be followed by an immersive discussion moderated by Datuk Ramli Ibrahim on the significance and impact of this huge congregation of humanity on the modern public at large.

This is the first exhibition in Malaysia of this unique celebration of spiritual confluence which has just recently ended. The exhibition verily is the dramatic encounter of the photographic art with tradition in timeless space. The Maha Kumbha Mela 2025 has held the world spellbound with images both fascinating and exotic and the exhibition of this unique event is presently held in commemoration of Earth Day 2025.
