Dear Friends,

The ‘Meniti Cakerawala’ team, both artistic and technical, met at Sutra, for the first time, on 28 August. For some, it was to discuss impending matters relating to this new production and also to get to know what it’s all about.

‘Meniti Cakerawala’ will be a multi-media production incorporating music (Valerie Ross), poetry (Poet-Laurette Mohammad Haji Salleh), visual art (Jalaini Abu Hassan) Video, Dance (Sutra), Lighting design (Sivarajah Natarajan), costume design (Leslie Variyan) and others.

Inspired by the launch of Tan Sri Mazlan’s book, ‘Cosmic Connections’, the multi-media production Meniti Cakerawala links further, Mazlan’s work on Astrophysics and the Langkawi National Observatory (LNO), with the public, now ready to know more about how our universe come into being.

The launch of the book last year, at the exquisite boutique hotel, Ambong Ambong, overlooking the Tepur Island, was so compelling, that I suggested that it should be staged.

Meniti Cakerawala will have Tan Sri Mazlan furthering her expose on astrophysics and at the same time, not just elucidate/educate the public on the scientific concepts of the creation of our Universe, but also entertain us with how the planets have influenced our cultures and religious beliefs. Mazlan’s will emphasise the complementary notion that art and science are intimately related.

Meniti Cakerawala will premiere on 7 December 2024 at Dewan Filharmonik Malaysia and promises to be an insightful exploration how stars have to die for us to exist and how ‘we are actually made of star-stuff!’

Indeed, it will blast you on a cosmic experience! It may even answer your question on ‘the meaning of life!’

Ramli.
