It was a pleasure to have Ambassador Shri Lalit Mansingh and High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, H.E. Shri T.S. Tirumurti visit Sutra Foundation this afternoon where both diplomats savoured Kumbha Mela, the exhibition of photographs by Lalit Verma (Aurodhan Gallery Director/Photographer, Pondicherry), before partaking a simple Sutra lunch. Mr Tirumurti mentioned that he used to serve under Lalit Ji when he was a junior diplomat. Shri Lalit Mansingh was former Indian diplomat, Foreign Secretary of India (1999–2000), Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Indian Ambassador to the United States. Shri Lalit Mansingh is the son of legendary Oriya poet Mayadhar Mansingh. Like his father who fed the creative resuscitation of odissi during its period of reconstruction more than sixty years ago, Lalit Mansingh continues this legacy as a sensitive patron of Indian classical dance and music (especially odissi) during his tenure in the Foreign Ministry. Most knowledgeable on all artistic matters, Lalit Ji is loved as well as respected by artists. He has been a great supporter of and guest of honour to many of Sutra’s performances in New Delhi and in Bhubaneshwar (Odisha).
