Krishna, Love Re-invented (Odissi) A timeless realm of Krishna‐Gopis idyll where the real, imagined and fantasised are celebrated with complete abandon. The Asia Society, New York 6 Nov 2014, Thursday Sutra Dance Theatre is the nerve centre of Malaysian Dance. Established in 1983 by Ramli Ibrahim, Sutra Dance Theatre has promoted the cultural diversity and vibrancy of Malaysian dance to national and international audience. As artistic director of the Sutra Dance Theatre, he has choreographed stunning works and nurtured some of the brightest dance talents from Malaysia. Ramli has been instrumental in transforming the dance scenario in Malaysia by boldly charting new paths and he is known for single-handedly establishing Odissi as a widely appreciated dance form in Malaysia. He is acknowledged as a ‘Living Heritage’ by the Government of Malaysia (2012) and is presently Chairman of Sutra Foundation.

The Sutra Dance Theatre will embark on a U.S. Tour (October / November) and is set to perform at The Asia Society, NYC on the 6 November, 2014 (Thurs). Ramli Ibrahim and his Sutra Dancers are available for Workshops, Illustrated Lecture, and Teaching (Odissi) during their stay in NYC from 3, 4 & 5 Nov. Ramli Ibrahim is no stranger to New York, having performed in this city many times. Besides an acknowledged dancer in bharatanatyam and odissi in India itself, Ramli was formerly with the Sydney Dance Company (Australia). Workshops and lecture demonstration (with video illustration) can focus on Sutra’s important role in the interface of Asian & Western dance in redefining modernity from an Asian perspectives.
