Dear Friends,

Activities in Sutra are not just about performances and exhibitions. Maintenance of Sutra is a 24-hr job, especially that of the gardens of Sutra & KamaRia which can be challenging.

Several times storms wreaked havoc and branches, or even a whole tree had fallen and we needed to employ professional tree cutters.

Recently, we needed to cut 5 of our tall and aged Betel-nut Palms (pokok Pinang) which had ‘died’. Planted more than 15 years ago, they now posed a danger were they to fall on the roof of the Balai.

Ali, our ‘man of all seasons’ and resident artist, together with Sutra videographer Rabby, devised a clever strategy to cut the main trunk of the dead palms so that they will not fall on the roof of our Balai.

The trunks ended up cleverly used for placing our flower pots on.
