Dear Friends,
The EO (Entrepreneurs Organisation, Malaysia) had a special Deepavali Night for their young entrepreneurs at Sutra House on Saturday 18 Nov, 2023.
President Collin Swee and spouse Deborah (who also Emceed the night) curated a superb night of culture and cuisine. The night exposed the EO members to photography & painting exhibitions, dance, cuisine and an interactive dialogue with dancer Datuk Ramli Ibrahim and visual artist Sivarajah Natarajan.
Previously known Young Entrepreneurs Organisation, the last time they had their special dinner of Art & Culture at Sutra, was more than 21 years ago! Ramli Ibrahim reminisced when the young architect David Hashim, jeweller Meer Habib, fashion designer Bernard Chandran and businessman Vijay Tirathrai (among others) spearheaded a similar exposure of then young entrepreneurs to the civilising influence of arts, culture and the social sciences. This had had an indelible impact on the manner they have engaged their entrepreneurial capacities with the community.
“It’s a relief that they (the entrepreneurs) don’t look at their index of success merely in terms of numbers, profits and cents!” said Collin.
The highlight was the cuisine curated by Sivarajah and also the dances by Sutra artistes, who evoked ‘rasa’ of a different kind as the cuisine did their taste buds…
Architect David Hashim being a founding member of EO Malaysia, was invited to interview Ramli Ibrahim, as a master of his art form. The latter spoke of how money was never his concern to achieve his mastery of dance. Ramli said that he primarily followed his ‘bliss’ and how his dance foray had pointed to his eventual destiny.
When the interview was almost over Ramli raised the final question to David Hashim (who had married Asha, once a Sutra dancer) which stumped him – “What has it been like being married to a dancer and has this changed your life?” It was rather amusing to see David who was lost for words when answering this in front of Asha…
