Embrace 7, Framing Odissi, is essentially about integrating the Visual and Performing Arts at Sutra Gallery (Titiwangsa) and KamaRia Galery (Petaling Jaya). For over three decades Sutra exhibitions have functioned as exclusive visual arts platforms for young and established artists to exhibit their works inspired by dance. Odissi, particularly, has been a favourite subject for many of these visual artists.
The late Dr Dinanath Pathy was a major collaborator who was responsible to open the floodgate of artists from Odisha to exhibit their artworks and to expose their talents to Malaysian audience. Through their paintings, drawings, sculptures and photography – odissi has become a familiar image decorating the walls of corporations and homes thus helping to establish a firm foothold in Malaysia.
