‘Invitation to Odissi’ came out a winner at its premiere last night (1 Nov, 2023) at the Vivekananda Cultural Centre (VCC), Embassy of India, Tokyo.
Narrated by Ramli Ibrahim, the six Sutra dancers (the rest had left for Malaysia after Jaya Ram) brought to life the signature repertoires of the late Guru Debaprasad Das.
Director of VCC, Smt Kanika Aggarwal, complimented, “One of the best productions we have seen at the VCC”- sealed the success of ‘Invitation to Odissi’.
The Indian dance aficionado of Tokyo and Japanese Indian dance community (odissi, bharatanatyam & kathak) came in full force and enjoyed the show. It was a full house.
Invitation to Odissi became the Embassy’s fitting celebration of Diwali and the event was accompanied with an impressive show of kolam at the foyer. The audience were treated to Indian refreshments after the show.
