Dear Friends,

With relief and great joy, Sutra concluded its 5-day season of Malam Bulan di Pagar Bintang at PJPAC (31 July – 4 August).

This premiere of Sutra contemporary modern dance was blessed with a smooth run without unduly drama from any quarters be it from the professional PJPAC theatre staff (the team was a delight to work with) and the Nero Space, was filled for all 5 nights.

Without saying too much, the whole production was a collective effort and everything, from the lighting, costume, dancers and front house & back-stage, worked magically towards a magical last day crescendo.

This was a huge relief as Sutra had just returned from an exhausting performing schedule in Bangkok and upon returning, we had to organise a lecture at the ICC and present an exhibition at Sutra Gallery.

Malam Bulan di Pagar Bintang shone as an original and vibrant production, intellectually stimulating as well as entertaining. The triple bill had something for each audience – from drama, pathos and razzmatazz. Not only the audience enjoyed it but even the dancers themselves revelled performing it and it was rewarding to see them develop with each work, growing with each subsequent night.
