Dear Friends,
Guests were subtly beckoned to experience the evocative world of Past Lives and Distant Voices : a photography exhibition by Nirmala Karuppiah at KamaRia Gallery on 25 April, 2024.
The black&white photography exhibition, was excellently curated by Foo Chi Wei and sensitively printed by Wesley Wong. The theme explored the concept of anemoia — longing for a time one has never experienced firsthand.
Through Nirmala’s expert art of seeing, guests were brought to a deja-vu journey together with her through moments that blur the lines between past and present, reality and memory.
It was also a compelling launch integrating the sensuality of Odissi by Sutra’s principal dancers Geethika, Harenthiran and Mei Mei together with talented visual artist Abdul Kareem of Ipoh, who rendered songs
which accentuated the thread of ‘nostalgia’ of the evening.
The exhibition, emceed by Vernon Adrian Emuang, brought additional panache and style to the immersive experience of the evening.
