Last night on 29 Oct, 2023 we performed at a special dinner organised for The Honorable Minister of Commerce & Industry of India, Shri Piyush Goyal, at The Imperial, Osaka.
The dinner was attended by the Ambassador of India to Japan, HE Siby George and Consul General Shri Nikhilesh Giri (who was the man behind the dinner function) and the who’s who of the India-Japan, business community.
The function opened with Sutra’s Odissi performance which set the positive mood of the evening. Wearing tones of orange costumes, Sutra dancers ‘blessed’ the evening and the audience was smitten!
The Ambassador, Shri Siby George delivered his welcome address and then invited the Indian Minister, who was attending the G7 meeting, to give his key-note address.
Shri Piyush Goyal, a confident and impressive orator, easily connected with the business stake-holders with a rousing and inspiring speech to further up-beat and enhance their India-Japan business ventures.
He complimented Sutra’s performance and spoke how each dancer had his/her own distinctive expression. An observant man, even when he came to greet us, it did not escape him to immediately note that there were several vegetarians on our table!
As 7 of the dancers involved in Jaya Ram have returned to Malaysia, leaving 6 in Japan, the evening saw part of another repertoire we will be presenting – ‘Invitation to Odissi’, an apt title, as we realise that most in Japan have not been exposed to Odissi!
