Sutra is set on its Japan Tour where the Foundation will perform Jaya Ram and Invitation to Odissi.
The tour is presented by The Consulate General of India, Osaka-Kobe.
The 15 strong Malaysian entourage consists of 13 dancers, with Sivarajah Natarajan (lighting designer) and Datuk Ramli Ibrahim (Artistic Director). This is the first visit to Japan by most in the team.
Jaya Ram has had a wonderful run since it’s premiere in September 2022 in Malaysia. The production represents the continuing contemporary cultural link between Kalinga and SEAsia which had existed for millennia.
Closer home, Jaya Ram became the highlight celebration of the 65 year diplomatic relation between India and Malaysia.
Jaya Ram had wowed audiences at the Konark Festival (Dec 2022), Delhi International Arts Festival (Dec 2022), Khajuraho Dance Festival (Feb 2023) and at The Esplanade (Singapore, Apr 2023).
Sutra dancers landed in Osaka this morning and are seen here already rehearsing Jaya Ram in a studio in Takatsuki in the evening of the same day.
