Dear Friends,
Radha, is the embodiment of ’hladini shakti’, the essence of Joy and Happiness within the essential spirit and ‘Maya’ of Krishna. It is through Radha that the devotee enjoys the extraordinary rapture of Krishna’s springtime love.
The worship of Radharani, the cherished beloved of the pastoral god-lover, Krishna flourished within the Shringara bhakti movement which once stirred medieval Indian poets. In this tradition, Krishna, the Universal Spirit Incarnate, is brought into the human plane. The Radha Prema Leela thus unfolds as a divine play – an aesthetic and dramatic romance between Radha, the chosen gopi, and the incorrigible yet irresistible cowherd hero, Krishna. Radha demands Krishna’s absolute devotion, though he is easily distracted by the admiration showered on him by other gopis. The thorn in the flesh in this love-relationship is Chandravali, Radha’s rival gopi.
Radha represents the individual soul yearning for complete union and feels incomplete if separated from Krishna and unwilling to share him.
The allegory of Radha and Krishna belongs to a mystico-erotic tradition, where the two lovers experience the full gamut of emotional states of ‘rasa’ – endless lovers’ quarrels and separations. Radha habours her dissatisfaction in persistent sulks that descend into intense melancholy. Her demand for Krishna’s exclusive love generates in her a state of intense envy. The power of Radha’s longing makes Krishna reciprocate her love and suffer as much as she does in their separation.
Don’t miss the chance to experience the various manners Krishna attempts to win Radha’s heart donning various disguises. Eventually, in the revelation of his true identity, Radha relents and surrenders, and the two lovers are reconciled in the sweetness of divine union.
