Dear Friends,
Sutra Foundation is presently all geared up for the world premiere of its new major Odissi production, Radhe! Radhe!
The production is themed on Radha, the cherished beloved of Krishna. Radha is regarded as the ‘Hladini’ shakti of Krishna – the aspect of pure enjoyment and happiness of Krishna, the latter being an integral pastoral deity facet of Lord Jagannath, the supreme deity of Odisha.
This is a production in association with Guru Gajendra Panda, director of Bhubaneswar-based Tridhara, richly accompanied live by some of Odisha’s best musicians!
A significant Malaysia-India dance collaboration, Radhe! Radhe! represents a continuation of exploration of the folk dance & music elements of Odisha as the fitting elements to enrich contemporary Odissi repertoire.
Radhe! Radhe! is inspired by the folk theatre tradition of Radha Prema Leela of the culture-rich Ganjam district of South Odisha.
Both Guru Gajendra & Ramli had undertaken extensive research on this art form, just as both dance gurus had done with regards to their previous enthralling Odissi productions of GANJAM and Jaya Ram.
Besides the dance vocabulary and music transformation of Radha Prema Leela, another interesting creative input is the use of Patachitra, Odisha’s traditional painting as part of the background screen illustrations commissioned to master Patachitra-artist Bibhu Patnaik, to enhance the aesthetic authenticity of this production.
Radhe! Radhe! is definitely not to be missed in the 2025 Malaysia event calendar!
