Young dancers from Sutra’s Outreach Dance Program (Kajang, Sg Choh) and also from Sutra were fortunate to be able to experience an intense 3-day dance-camp and workshop at Sutra from 5 – 7 June 2016 during their recent school holidays. Â Sutra Academy principal, Ramli Ibrahim felt that it was vital that the young dancers were exposed to other related performing arts subjects such as music & sound appreciation, yoga, drama & voice, contemporary modern and Jazz
classes. The exposure, Ramli says, will expand their world view with regard to dance and open their mind to the breadth and options related to the performing arts to stimulate their future creativity and sensitivity. This is important in the present scenario of globalisation. However, Ramli felt that they should be exposed to the best. And not just the breadth but also to the depth of knowledge, slowly but surely, of what the world of dance and performing arts can offer.
Sutra had enlisted experts in their respective fields such as Dr. Alex Dea, Sabera Sheik, Rathimalar Govindarajoo, Sumithra Sekaran and also Weijun to teach the student in their first classes in the various subjects offered, besides their odissi classes. They were also fortunate to spend a day at Masakini’s newly opened Ramli Hassan studio hosted by actor-dramatist, Sabera Sheik.
