Sutra Foundation is compelled to bring to your attention the uncensored version of a video on #SaveSoil requested by Isha Foundation/Sadhguru’s team, an international effort to promote this current issue.
The video commences with a speech on the vital importance to instill awareness in global communities of the interconnectedness of Life. There is definitely a dire need to promote diversity in our organic living eco-system.
In the dance-video, I’ve attempted to explore the metaphor/concept of Purusha and Prakriti (Siva-Sakti/Yin-Yang etc), the two apparent opposites but complementary forces that drive Life’s principles and that which makes it, whole.
There is no doubt that dance is visual and essentially a dramatic art form. In dealing with dance, one has to contend to sometimes explore the visually sensual images – such as that of the metaphorical union of the male-female entities.
Sutra Foundation understands when Isha team deems it necessary to censor some images which may touch cultural sensitivities.
However, at the same time, Sutra feels that it is also important that it does not deprive the more progressive viewers (who do not find anything wrong with these censored images) from partaking in the full ‘rasa’ of the work. In censoring of the images, one inevitably diminishes the power of the message.
It is therefore also necessary for Sutra to show the video in its entirety for the progressive rasikas to judge for themselves and to partake in the full enjoyment of this brief dance, thus, the option of its uncensored format.
Sutra strongly believes that this video segment is performed with aesthetic integrity to awaken and engage with the consciousness of the viewer with regard to the rasa/drama of Life itself.
After all, Dance is metaphor and at this time and age, we at Sutra endeavour not to compromise and to cultivate matured and discerning rasikas, able accept such images as part of this heighten consciousness in Art especially Dance.
