From a rasika:
Thank you so much for connecting us to the Enchantress last night. The performers had exhibited great rasa that pushed us to deep silence in the end. This silence really made me wish I were Krishna to say ‘hi’ to her!!
Thanks to all your contributions, especially offering a place to corporate workers [of slavery!!] like me, to connect to oneself.
Ramli says:
We express our deep appreciation to this special performance at Sutra Gallery for connecting to this compelling female psyche of Kerala’s classical dance, Mohiniattam. Thank you Jayashree for showing the purity of the Kalamandalam school of Mohiniattam and giving us the experience of admiring your art.
Thank you Maalika for this unique opportunity of sharing your genius and individuality of interpretation. To Maalika, especially, Sutra and I have a longtime connection with her for almost 3 decades and we have shared many magical transformation.
Maalika is the veritable Enchantress who keeps us connected with the Maya of existence; to journey with the flow of Life and simultaneously revelling in the fluidity of this ‘Maya’ called existence.
There are many images offered by Maalika whereby we are connected to very deep spaces of Rasa – spaces where Myth and Life becomes interchangeable:
LifeimitatesArtimitatesLife, the exhibition of paintings of Kishore Sahoo exhibited behind Maalika express her reality. Maalika is aware that the dance is an excellent vehicle to exorcise the knots and questions that have lingered unanswered within her and within us, too. She offers her soothing options of ‘answers’ not by words but by expressing ‘rasas’ in such a manner that is both therapeutic for the audiences, and I believe, also, for her.
Many of the guests lingered long after the performance to confer with their core-selves and to connect with the Enchantress who has just given them a glimpse of the elixir of answer they have been longing to be revealed all these times.
Ramli
