Dear Friends,
Debabrata, Mumbai-based scholar/visual artist/dancer, gave Malaysian audience a rare insight into the Indian traditional classical arts. The Illustrated lecture-performance was presented at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, ICC Kuala Lumpur and was attended by HE Smt. Subhashini Narayanan, the Deputy High Commissioner of India, to Malaysia.
In his presentation, Debabrata integrated the commonalities in philosophical approaches found in sastras and puranas which had dealt with Dance, Sculpture and Painting. He gave the audience a comprehensivist overview of Indian art traditions citing examples and presenting comparative analysis & illustrations in various sastras and puranas.
Debabrata culminated his presentation with ‘Tala Chitram’ whereby using his feet, Debabrata painted ‘Kurma’ the avatar of Vishnu, while dancing.
He ended his presentation with the profound declaration
“I am the Turtle. The churning for amrita is also happening within me/us”, leaving the audience with the message that the process of ‘distillation’ is happening within us – without the churning, there will be no amrita / the elixir of immortality and there will be no self-realisation…
