Najib launches arts fest

KUALA LUMPUR: The DiverseCity 2015 Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival got off to roaring start at an event launched by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Monday. The inaugural festival was launched by the Prime Minister in conjunction with National Day celebrations at the Pavilion Mall here. Shoppers were treated to lively cultural performances and art exhibition as a prelude to the festival which will take place between Sept 1 and Oct 4. In her welcome note, festival director Datin Sunita Rajakumar said the aim of the festival was to showcase the “heart and soul” of the city to both locals and tourists. “Half the 400 performances, exhibitions and shows will be free as wanted the festival to be accessible to the public,” she said, adding the ticket prices of some of the events were between RM20 and RM40. Among those present was Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, Michael Veerapan and Harith Iskandar.
