In December 2024, Sutra Foundation had presented Meniti Cakerawala, the science and romance of the cosmos, a multi-media dance theatre presentation in association with ArtsFAS, an initiative of Yayasan Hasanah.
On 12 February 2025, Sutra creative team presented two 1hr-30min lec-dems based on ‘The Making of Meniti Cakerawala’,.
The lec-dem at Mon’t Kiara International School was held in the morning and the other, at Sutra House, in the evening. Most of the audience had not seen the production and professedly were keen to attend after attending the lecdem, if Meniti is to be held once again. Tan Sri Mazlan Othman, together with the creative team – Datuk Ramli Ibrahim (artistic director), Dr Valerie Ross (music composer), Sivarajah Natarajan (lighting designer) and Sutra Dancers held the fort admirably. Missing was Leslie Variyan (costume designer), as time for the lecdem was limited.
We were able to gauge the interest during the Q&A when the audience revealed how much they were soaked in the creative process under discussion. Clearly, the lec-dem was an excellent pre-performance initiative we should adopt to cultivate a theatre following to our productions.
The sharing of our ideas, motivations and insights when each collaborator explained his or her reasons and points of embarkation, created an interest and deep impression on the audience.
We hope these potential audience will flock to the production when we present Meniti Cakerawala 2.0 for its second season for a Malaysia Tour later in 2025.
