From their point of view: (From left) Poojitha, Christine and Vasanthi join hands to bring ‘Wonder, Stillness, Life Answered’.

THREE female artists with a heart for humanity and nature express their take on the subject at an art exhibition at Sutra Gallery.

Poojitha Menon, Christine Das and Vasanthi Naidu believe that humans have a need to reflect, reevaluate and search into his or her existence to understand that they are spiritual beings created for love, peace, and kindness to themselves, others, the environment and to the voiceless.

“In today’s world of self-obsession and selfishness, there is a clear sign of anxiety in the living. We seem to have lost the wonder and excitement that life has to offer.

“As painters, we are blessed to be able to pour these emotions into our blank canvasses and try to evoke a reaction from the audience, thus conveying our thought process in the most artistic way,” said Poojitha at the launch of the works of art exhibition titled “Wonder, Stillness, Life Answered.”

Poojitha’s works emphasise the importance of prana, which is breath or the vital force. Her works express the evolution of life, among other things.

Christine, who was also involved in many nature conservation activities, has focused on the connection between human and the environment.

“In my art pieces, you can see that I always picture Mother Nature to have no mouth or lips because she is voiceless. So, we become her voice.

“I see myself as the voice of nature. Mother Nature, Gaia is my alter-ego.

“Mother Nature uses her other senses to nurture the earth. My painting shows the symbiotic relationship between the two. Every life form is priceless and serves a purpose in our own survival,” she said.

The third artist, Vasanthi, delves deep into herself to show that when one is in the state of calmness and reflects within oneself, the answers can be found.

“When we wonder about a subject, I go within myself and get certain answers. When you are in a meditative state, you have stillness. The combination of these will give you answers.

“The human body can be viewed as the most perfect instrument for the expression of the state of consciousness through the development of energy centres or chakra.

“It is through understanding and utilising the energies of these chakras through meditation, sounds, music and cosmic vibrations, that we can achieve serenity and harmony within oneself and experience all of life’s goodness.

“My paintings are manifestations of experience that has touched my life,” she added.

The launch of the exhibition was graced by Indian High Commissioner T.S. Tirumurti and Mexican ambassador to Malaysia Carlos Felix Corona.

Sutra Foundation chairman Datuk Ramli Ibrahim said arts and culture helped us reaffirm ourselves as civilised human being when many things around us are haywire.

“Be it in painting, music, dance, crafts or cooking, it will all eventually bring out the civilising aspect of the humanity.

“Here we have three women with their views on the subject,” he said.

The exhibition at the Sutra Gallery will be on until April 24.

The gallery is open from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. Closed on weekends but can be visited with appointment. For details, call 03-4021 1092 or visitwww.sutrafoundation.org.my
