Sivarajah Natarajan

Visual Artist/Lighting Designer/Curator/Board of Trustee

A Fine Arts graduate of Malaysian Institute of Art (1992), Sivarajah has spent the last 18 years with Sutra Dance Theatre as a visual artist, light and stage designer, resident documenter and photographer of Sutra. He has been the force behind Sutra’s international tours at archaeological temple sites of India (Hampi, Tanjavur, Khajuraho, Konarak and Belur) to Carnegie Hall (New York) and the Sydney Opera House. Being a ‘dancer’s painter’, on canvas and on stage, Siva is a major creative talent who is able to integrate Malaysian visual and performing arts.

Rathimalar Govindarajoo

Principal Dancer/Choreographer/Teacher

A major talent and lead dancer with Sutra Dance Theatre, Rathimalar has partnered Ramli Ibrahim, her mentor, the most recent being the highly acclaimed Vision of Forever. She toured with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company (SJDC UK) throughout Britain and Europe with its major productions, contextualizing performances with educational and outreach programs for five and a half years before returning to Malaysia to contribute her dance experience. She is presently discovering opportunities to dance, teach and choreograph new pieces as a freelance artist.

Guna

Principal Dancer/Choreographer/Teacher

The first Malaysian male graduate of India’s premier performing arts institution, Kalakshetra (Chennai), Guna is one of Malaysia’s most evocative performers in contemporary and Indian classical dance (Bharata Natyam/Odissi). He spent his creative formative years at Sutra Dance Theatre (1987 – 1996) before founding Khazana Dance Creations, where he is artistic director. Guna has been featured in Sutra’s international productions such as Spellbound, Vision of Forever and Odissi Stirred, in Asia and Europe. His solo Odissi work Stri for Sutra’s Under the Stars Series earned him Best Dancer in BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2005.
